What every plan is built on

Canonical ids that migrate
Ids never break. When a record is renamed or merged it carries its old id in former_ids, so the id you stored years ago still resolves.
Resolution with an audit trail
Messy strings in, a canonical id and a confidence out, plus resolved_via: every alias and fold the input passed through, in order. Below the confidence floor you get nothing rather than a plausible guess.
An open core, free forever
The identity layer is CC BY 4.0 and always will be. You pay for the resolution engine and the curated enrichment on top of it, never for the facts underneath.
Versioned releases
Every answer is pinned to a dataset release, currently 2026.08.1, so what you got today is reproducible tomorrow.

Questions people ask

Can I try it before paying?

Yes. Create an account and you get 100 credits, no card required. It is a one-time grant rather than a monthly allowance, so there is no trial clock and no refill: the credits sit there until you spend them.

What does one call cost?

It depends how much work it is. Resolving a string, fetching imagery or matching a plate costs 1 credit. A full enriched record costs 2 credits. A jurisdiction's entire plate-format corpus costs 5 credits, because it returns the whole corpus in one call. Checking your key with GET /me is free, and so is any request we could not answer: malformed requests and unknown ids never spend a credit.

What happens when I run out?

Requests pause until your next refill, or until you top up with a credit pack. Nothing hard cuts mid month and no surprise invoice arrives, because there is no metered overage to invoice: the API answers with a 402 carrying your balance and the packs that fix it.

Do unused credits roll over?

Subscription credits do not. Each period your balance is refilled to the plan's allowance rather than stacked on top of what was left, so unspent credits expire at the refill. We would rather say that here than have you find it on a Tuesday.

What about credit packs?

Packs are the exception: they are bought outright, they are not part of any subscription, and they never expire. Buy one when you need headroom for a month you did not plan for, rather than moving up a tier for it.

What do I save by paying yearly?

2 months. A year costs 10 months of the monthly price, billed once, which is about 17% off. Every paid plan shows both, and the per-month figure next to a yearly price is always the annual total divided by twelve, never a different offer.

Do I have to credit VehiclesDB?

On every plan except the ones that include a waiver (Scale and Enterprise). Each response carries a machine-readable attribution object, and displaying our data requires visible credit. The identity layer is CC-BY-4.0; the enrichment and resolution on top of it are ours.

Can I change plan later?

Any time, in either direction. The billing adjustment is shown before you confirm, and nothing is charged until you do.

How do I pay?

Major credit and debit cards, processed by Stripe. Card details never touch our servers.

What if something goes wrong?

Fees are non-refundable under our Terms of Service, but that is the contract rather than the intent: if we broke something or you were charged for something you could not use, write to us and we will sort it out.
